1. Who provides the service
Remocat is provided by Daniele Crescenzi, an individual based in Frosinone, Lazio, Italy. Contact: crescenziaziendale@gmail.com.
2. What Remocat does
You register your face once. From then on, when someone fails to unlock your device, Remocat takes a photo with the front camera, compares the face with yours on the device, and if it is a stranger it saves the photo as a report.
The comparison runs entirely on your device with a local TensorFlow Lite model, downloaded from our servers the first time. Remocat is not a replacement for your device lock: it observes unlock attempts, it does not unlock anything.
3. What the app needs
- A Google account: to sign in and to save the reports in your own Google Drive.
- The camera: to register your face and to photograph whoever tries to unlock the device.
- The Accessibility Service: the only way Android lets an app know about a failed unlock attempt. Details on the dedicated page.
- Notifications: to tell you when a report has been saved. You can refuse them; monitoring keeps working.
4. Your data
Your registered face never leaves the device: it is converted into a numeric representation and kept encrypted on the phone. The reports go to your own Google Drive, not to us. What reaches our servers is only your email address, your Google account identifier and a device identifier. The full explanation is in Privacy.
5. How you may use it
- Install it only on a device that is yours, or one you are authorised to protect.
- Do not use it to photograph or monitor other people without their knowledge. Doing so may be a criminal offence where you live.
- Do not try to bypass, modify or reverse engineer the security mechanisms of the app.
- You must be at least 16 years old to use Remocat.
6. Stopping the service
You are in control at any moment: turn monitoring off from the app home screen, revoke the Accessibility Service from your device settings, remove your registered face, or delete your account entirely — see Delete account. Uninstalling the app removes everything it keeps on the phone.
7. Limits and liability
Face recognition is not infallible: it can miss an intruder or misjudge a familiar face, and it depends on light, camera and device conditions. Remocat is a complement to the security of your device, never its only line of defence. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect damages arising from the use or malfunction of the app; nothing in these terms limits the rights you have as a consumer.
8. Changes and applicable law
These terms may change; the current version is always the one published here, and continuing to use the app means accepting it. Italian law applies, without prejudice to the mandatory protections of the country where you reside.
